Sunday Scramble Changes Time and Format, Buchanan and Milby record wins

The long running Sunday morning scramble has changed from 9-holes to 18-holes starting at 9:00 every week. On the first 18 hole event, Mike Comeaux, Mike VanZandt, and James Irvine captured first place with a 6 under par 66. Shannon O’Brien, Paul Williams, and Lance Ferguson tied John Milby, Charlie Brannan, Ray Pietramale, and Will Armstrong at 3 under par for second place. Jason Pettit, Joe Ball and Sonny Wong were at 70. Roy Strimple, Bob Jackson and Dabney Harrison finished one under par and the pre-tourney favorite team of Mike Mitchell, Hoss Strimple, and Sonny Makin finished with an unbelievable one over par 73.

golf-0729-1David Buchanan’s career best one over par 28 edged Robin Giddens, Michael Comeaux and Dabney Harrison by one shot on Tuesday, 7/15 at the Ranch. A change in Buchanan’s putting stroke has made a profound difference in his scoring. Mike Comeaux won the following Thursday Par 3 contest with a 3 over par 30 which edged a resurgent Dabney Harrison by one shot while beating Paul Williams, David Buchanan, and Shannon O’Brien by two shots. Comeaux also won the 7/22 par 3 contest with a nice 29 over a hot Paul Williams (31) and a struggling Shannon O’Brien (32). The Dabtician ended his run of fine play in the Par 3 tourneys with a 10 over par 37. David Buchanan had a 34.The Tuesday Par 3 contest is played on the Gold Par 3 track while on Thursday the golfers hit from the more difficult and longer Turquoise markers.

golf-0729-2John Milby, recently showing the game that shares the course record on both Par 3 tracks, shot a two over par 29 to tie Shannon O’Brien for first place Thursday from the Blue Tees. O’Brien birdied the tough first hole for a nice $30 skin. Michael Comeaux, whose game shows no sign of deteriorating from either the grueling heat, lack of play, or demanding work schedule, finished one back at 30. Robin Giddens parred the first six holes before shooting four over par on the last three to tie Mike VanZandt at 31. VanZandt had two birdie skins to go along with two doubles, two bogies, and three pars. David Buchanan and Paul Williams had 35’s. Bob Jackson, Sweet Charlie Brannan, and Head Golf Instructor Michael Mitchell stumbled to 10 over par 37’s. Patty Atkins short game deserted her on her way to a 39.
