Support of Local Businesses Essential to Texas Crab Festival Charities’ Mission

One of the best things about living on the Bolivar Peninsula is the sense of community and support shared by its residents. That spirit was displayed recently when representatives from Cobb Real Estate, the Big Store, Jose’s Cantina Restaurant and Sports Bar, RTA Internet, Stingaree Restaurant and Swedes Real Estate came together with Texas Crab Festival Charities to recognize some of the outstanding local youth awarded scholarships and grants. These are among the 26 local students currently benefiting from TCFC scholarships.

Giving back to the community has always been the primary mission of the Texas Crab Festival. Since obtaining 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2013, Texas Crab Festival Charities has awarded over $450,000, directly impacting the community as that money is reinvested into youth scholarships and camps, support for local schools, organizations, volunteer fire departments and various outreach initiatives that improve the lives of our residents.

Although proceeds from the annual Texas Crab Festival help to meet those goals, additional donations and support from our local business owners is essential. We want to once again thank our business sponsors for their generosity and encourage others to join with Texas Crab Festival Charities as we continue to work to “Turn the Tide for a Brighter Future” for the residents of Bolivar Peninsula.

Reading the above article, about TCF, just made my day!

I was part of the original Crab Festival team, way back in the day.

At the time, I lived in Beaumont but was asked by Crystal Beach Chamber,
to assist them with an idea to get beach house owners and day visitors down to the beach earlier in the year.
    That was the ORIGINAL intent!

I pulled all my fund raising magic tricks out and the result was the original Texas Crab Festival.
I DID register the name with the state so there could be no other TEXAS CRAB FESTIVAL and we did have huge crowds the first year.
Over the 3 days, we had 125 thousand people, made lots of money and considered it a success.

“Charity” or giving back to the community was NOT a goal.

Therefore, seeing the above article warmed my heart. I am so pleased, not only is the Crab Festival still going on but that is capable of giving back to individuals with scholarships.
    What a wonderful legacy!

Thank you everyone that carried my vision forward for so many years.
And much appreciation to each of the original team members that made this possible.
Dianne (used to be Burney) Hotvedt
