Don’t forget to hang onto your money over the weekend but don’t miss the February 1st deadline to pay 2015 property taxes without penalty and interest! As in the past, hours on that date will be extended in the Galveston and League City branches from 7 am to 6 pm. The Santa Fe and Texas City branches will be open normal operating hours of 8 am to 5 pm. For the 11th year in a row, Tax Office chief deputies and the tax assessor collector will be lending a hand at all full time offices the last week of January and February 1st.
A courtesy reminder letter will be mailed by January 15th to all property owners with remaining balances that are not participating in quarter or half payment options. Payments may cross in the mail so do not be alarmed by this courtesy reminder.
Payments may be mailed or left in GCTO drop boxes, paid online (www.galcotax.com) via electronic check ($1 bank fee) or credit card (2.5% merchant fee) or credit card via telephone (toll free) at 1-866-865-1433 (English) or 1-866-865-1435 (Spanish).
February 1st is also the last day to register to vote or update your information in time for the March 1 Primary elections. As with tax payments, the February 1 postmark is critical!
Voter registration applications are available at all Galveston County Tax Offices (Crystal Beach, Friendswood, Galveston, League City, Santa Fe, and Texas City) or online at www.galcotax.com. Contact the Voter Registration Department toll free at 1-888-976-2280.
