Texas Crab Festival Announces 2019 Music Entertainment Schedule

The Texas Crab Festival has just released the entertainment schedule for the 34th annual Mother’s Day weekend bash, featuring a “Who’s Who” of Crab Fest favorites. The 2019 celebration of Gulf Coast style Music, Art and Crabs takes place May 10-12 at Gregory Park in Crystal Beach. Bring your lawn chairs and settle in for a full weekend of fun for the whole family.

Friday, May 10

Local singer Haley Comeaux (6:00pm) will get us started as the Texas Crab Festival opens.

Paul Childers (7:45pm-9:15pm) accepted our invitation to perform on the evening of his debut performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We literally spoke to him as he walked off the stage. Blending Pop, R&B, and Soul, Childers is leading a new breed of singer/songwriters and guitarists. Hailing from Nashville, he finds a way to blur the lines cast between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix styles of guitar playing. He performed at the Grand Opening of the Songbirds Guitar Museum and has opened for Vince Gill and Robert Cray.

2013 Grammy Award Winner and Louisiana and Gulf Coast Museum Hall of Fame member Wayne Toups (10:00pm-11:30pm) returns to the TCF stage with his unique brand of Cajun, Zydeco, R&B, and Rock music. Wayne has toured the world but has always found a home here at Crystal Beach. He has long been dubbed “the Cajun Springsteen or others simply call him “Le Boss”. You won’t want to miss his “Cajun fusion with a Rock and Roll attitude”.

Saturday, May 11

Local band The Cadillacs (11:45pm-12:30pm) return this year to get things started on Saturday.

Musical duo Treble Soul (1:00pm-2:30pm) made up of married couple Curt Jones and Hannah Prestridge are the 2018 Texas Country Music Association Duo of the Year. They are further known from the CBS Show Celebrity Undercover Boss where they were chosen by Darius Rucker to be mentored. They met in Nashville, both come from musical families, and they play country music.

You won’t want to miss Andy and the Dreamsicles (3:15pm-4:45pm) with their eclectic music with emphasis on the Classic Rock of the 1970’s. This popular regional band from Clear Lake returns to the Texas Crab Festival after a two-year absence. To quote the band, “we rock hard but we don’t play hard rock.”

Full of grit, soul, and even some tenderness, Tennessee Jet (5:30pm-7:00pm) is one talented musician. Nashville based Tennessee Jet and his band play music described as powerful, badass, and influenced by artists as diverse as Dwight Yoakam, The White Stripes, and Kurt Cobain. TJ McFarland was raised in Oklahoma with both parents rodeo performers. He is currently touring with popular acts Cody Jinks and Ward Davis. Tennessee Jet is no stranger to Texas with performances at Austin City Limits and the Woodlands in the coming weeks.

Texas Country Artist Sunny Sweeney (7:45PM-9:15PM) is the headliner for Saturday evening. Described as the quip that makes you laugh and the truth that makes you cry; she was raised in Longview, Texas and pursued acting and comedy before taking her musical talents seriously. She has since built a tremendous following starting with the Music Capital of Texas where she was named one of Austin’s most notable local artists. She was nominated in 2013 as the New Female Artist at the American Country Music Awards, and the release her acclaimed fourth studio album “Trophy” in March 2017 includes popular songs both light hearted and heart wrenching. She combines contemporary country, honky tonk and traditional country music.

Back by popular demand, Saturday night ends with the New Orleans Party Band Bag of Donuts (10:00PM-11:30PM) with their flair for kabuki make-up and extravagant costumes. Welcome the boys back for their cover songs performed in a style they have branded “Super Pop”; any song for any era. Now in their 31st year, Bag of Donuts delivers New Orleans traditions and ultimate showmanship to festivals from Texas to Florida. To quote the band, “It’s like Mardi Gras all year long”.

Sunday, May 12

Mother’s Day at the Texas Crab Festival begins with Bolivar’s Got Talent (11:30AM-1:00PM). Enjoy the musical gifts of Crenshaw and High Island students under the direction of Millie Coffee.

Who did not fall in love with Sandy G and the Latin group from Houston Sandy G Y Los Gavilanes? (1:45PM-3:15PM) They are welcomed back as the Sunday afternoon featured entertainment. Sandy and the band offer a high energy professional performance with a full brass section that will only have you wanting more.

The festival ends with newly formed Crystal Beach band Heaven’s Love (4:00PM-5:30PM). Enjoy a diverse mix of classic rock, soul, rhythm and blues featuring Michael Feighan on drums, Brent Finch on bass, Susan Shafer on keys, and Claude Darby on guitar joined by a multitude of other local musicians and singers.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of local volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors, 100% of the net proceeds from the Crab Fest go to fund support programs, scholarships and grants that help better the lives of residents of the Bolivar Peninsula.
