Texas Crab Festival Serving Up Success

The 2022 Texas Crab Festival is one for the record books. The three-day event over Mother’s Day weekend was a crowd-pleasing success. The 37th annual iconic festival had crabs of all kinds, live music, a 5k run, and three days of fun-filled activities. Nine musical artists took the stage, over 60 food and shopping vendors, and an all-time high of festivalgoers were in attendance. Boiled crabs, soft shell crabs, crab cakes, crab nachos, and much more were enjoyed throughout the festival runs. “We had a smooth and successful run. As a charity and a board, we are thrilled with the attendance, the excitement and experience we offered, and the feedback from the majority of those involved,” says Tom Osten, Texas Crab Festival Board President.

The weekend kicked off gigantic with the Bag of Donuts and George Dearborn bringing their talents on Friday night. A sea of lawn chairs and dancing bodies could be seen in what is estimated to be one of the largest crowds ever to attend the Texas Crab Festival. Wayne Toups and David Joel took the stage to a packed festival on Saturday, not to be outdone. On Sunday, accordion sounds of Latin and Cajun closed out the festival with music by La Mentira Norteña and Bayou Sounds.

The festival held several different contests, such as the Texas 2 Step dance contest that Billy and Nancy Bouse won, a wiener dog race with 50 different entries, and a 5k run with nearly 300 runners taking part. In addition, washers, a cornhole tournament, a crab gumbo cookoff, and shopping help create the best Texas Crab Festival experience in years.

Proceeds from the annual Texas Crab Festival and donations from festival visitors are reinvested in the community and help fund youth scholarships and camps, local schools and volunteer fire departments, and various outreach initiatives. The 2023 Texas Crab Festival is set to run from May 12-14. For more information on becoming a sponsor or a vendor, visit texascrabfestival.org.

Crab Festival 2022 was filled with lots of fun, great music, & food. Not happy with the Saturday entrance fee of $15.00 at the gate. With the cost of gas, groceries, & everything else going up, most families of 4 or more cannot afford $60.00 to get in the gate, eat, ride rides, etc. I’ve been a big supporter of Crab Fest for many years & have Volunteered in the past for over 15 plus years. Go back to the $10.00 charge on Saturday.
