The Kids Reel It In

The up-and-coming anglers of Bolivar participated in the Kids Hardhead Haul-In on Saturday morning at Stingaree, as part of the Lions Club Annual Stingaree Saltwater Slam. Twenty-five little anglers participated. They cast their lines at 8:30am, fishing off the dock at Stingaree Marina. Lions Club members were there to bait the hooks and remove the catch. The official weigh-in station was busy recording all weights. Of course, not only hardheads were reeled in; a couple of large gafftop surfaced, a few black drum, and several croakers came aboard the dock. Many of the anglers were fishing for the first time, and almost every child caught their “Big Fish”. Each child was given a rod and reel, donated by Brad Vratis and ‘Big Rich’ Courville.

Trophies were awarded for the first, second, and third largest hardheads. And a $500 cash prize went to the mini-angler with the largest hardhead, thanks to a generous donation from Myers Jewelry & Load in Beaumont. After the awards ceremony, the little fishermen, parents, and grandparents were treated to hot dogs, fries, and drinks – all compliments of Stingaree Restaurant.

Congratulations to the young anglers! Thank you to all the supporters!
