The First Annual Texas Frog Festival – Probably one of the biggest events to hit this Peninsula ever! Spring Break 2014! It happened quickly, mere weeks of planning to pull this event together, over 300 volunteers. Saturday morning, the gates opened to the numerous VIP tents, the grand tent selling t-shirts and caps, a silent auction and raffle ticket tables. The ceremony began with Mike Redman, a retired Marine, raising the flag, while the National Anthem was sung. Jerry Nelson of Nutty Jerry’s helped assemble a lineup of local and national performers, including Tracy Byrd and the Casey Donahew Band, who performed Saturday night. Bri Bagwell, Bag of Donuts, Jerry Jeff Walker and Tracy Lawrence all performed Sunday.

It’s all about Lone Survivor Foundation, which aids our service members who may have returned with post traumatic stress disorder. They all, generally, just need help adjusting to life after serving our country. With the help of this organization, Brint Construction plans to build a 3500 sq.ft. home, equipped to house five families. Attached will be another complex with living quarters for therapists and a conference center. Ground breaking is scheduled for this Spring, completion scheduled for January 2015.

The Frog Festival is just one of many fund raisers happening in and around this Peninsula. It was grand! Two days of standing, walking, talking, smiling, braving the rain and cold and rejoicing when the sun finally came out. All you have to say around here is “Lone Survivor Foundation.” Denise Lange, chairwoman of the First Annual Texas Frog Fest tells us “We’ll see you next year!”

Tomorrow night will be a Bunco Tournament benefiting the Lone Survivor Foundation. In April, a local community will host a BBQ Cook Off – 100% of the funds going to the Foundation. Electricians, plumbers, drywall, flooring specialists, sound technicians, you name it, they’ve all come forth to offer their expertise, free of charge, to help build this facility.

We’ll see you next year for the Second Annual Texas Frog Festival!!

  2. Denise Lange says:

It NEVER would have happened without the ARMY OF VOLUNTEERS who all immediately stepped up when we put out the call! Almost every volunteer was there, working, through the duration of the event, even though they were scheduled for 8 hour shifts! I can never thank my Top Gun team enough. They ROCKED!!

  3. Donna Broussard says:

What an awesome weekend!! We had a blast!! Thank you to all that worked so hard to pull this together and to the volunteers. Hats off to The Lonestar Foundation who is doing great things for our wounded warriors and their families – the stories they shared were incredible. Our group is all in for next year!!! Can’t wait!!

  4. Carlis Cole says:

Bolivar should be ever so proud!

  5. What an incredible project to undertake and to have such success with so little time to prepare. Have to admit, first emailed Brenda Henley because I thought this would be a fun gardening item. Didn’t realize “frog” didn’t mean the hopping kind! How embarrassing. But now this is such an exciting happening and our hats are off to all who planned and attended this event. Brenda & Bill Smith
