Tri City Corvette Club

by Anne Christian
Normally when you see a corvette and a police car together there’s a ticket involved, but that was not the case on Saturday October 6, when The Tri City Corvette Club received a police escort from Beaumont to Bolivar heading to Brad Metz’s place on Oceanview for a rally and BBQ. What a sight for any sports car lover, a string of American classic ‘vettes roaring through town on a beautiful sunny morning.

The Tri City Corvette Club was formed in 1967. It boasts over 120 members, has a formal meeting on the first Tuesday of the month and hosts one or two events for its members each month.

The Corvettes...

...and the Corvette Clubbers gathered at the Metz's place on Oceanview for a rally and BBQ

One might think it is all about their love of the car, but the Tri City Corvette Club’s focus is on raising money for a number of charities including Buckner’s Children’s Home, Humane Society of SE TX, the Food Bank of SE TX, and Wounded Warriors. They are also involved in supporting the community by awarding scholorships to Lamar upper classmen, participating in parades, festivals and offering escorts to local high schools for the Homecoming court.

Brad Metz, Board Member, Mike White, Board Member and Co-Founder, who has been involved with Tri City since the 70's, and Michael Merideth, President.

The Tri City Corvette Club also helps support the National Corvette Museum, and members are quick to point out, especially to Mustang lovers, the Corvette is the only car that has a national museum.

Matilda

Meet Matilda, the club’s only furry member, who serves as mascot and “award”. When a member commits a Matilda-able offense, like setting off the car alarm, or leaving a car running in a parking lot (true story) that person is dubbed “the keeper of the squirrel” and takes custody and care of Matilda, who must accompany them everywhere until such time she is awarded to another. Matilda has been on cruises, to family reunions, taken flights to exotic places but is happiest in her little pink chair in the middle of the party.
