United Methodist Women of Bay Vue have been busy making blankets and quilts to donate to UTMB-Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Three of Santa’s elves made the delivery on Monday to Carol Arvie-Gooden and Mary Moody of the hospital’s Department of Volunteer Services. The inspiration for taking on this project was that, according to Ms. Arvie-Gooden, many newborn babies leave the hospital without a blanket. Also, we all agreed that hospital waiting rooms in the ER, ICU and clinic areas are always cold – for family and loved ones, as well as for patients.
How nice to have a hospital volunteer drop off a warm blanket or quilt for those waiting and tell them, “It’s yours to keep!” The Volunteer Services staff has already made plans to designate some of the blankets to the hospice area, also.
Many thanks to the following Bay Vue UMW and friends for many hours of work on this project:
Elaine Rolfing Tricia Smith Rita Moseley Jane Loose Janet Leigh Davis Paula Isenblatter Jan Evans Betty Williamson |
Mary Raney Edith Smith Sandi Covington Mavis Hunstiger Margaret Uhlenb Carmen Schultz Becky Stafford Janice Billick |
Elaine Rolfing was overheard saying, “We have lots of material, so there will be more blankets!”
At the January meeting, the ladies will decide on our next project. Whatever it is, a loving group of UMW will work and enjoy serving our community.
