Utility Bill Scammers Hard at Work

Customers should be alert for fraud
Entergy has received multiple reports recently of attempted bill payment scams from customers in the Beaumont and surrounding area. In the five reports Entergy received on Friday, the customers reporting the scam attempts didn’t fall for the scheme and instead, reported the attempt to Entergy. In each of the cases, the con artists instructed customers to put money on a pre-paid card, such as a “Green Dot” or other third party card, and then call back with immediate payment. If payment was not made, the scammers threatened to cut off the customer’s electricity.

Entergy will never call and demand immediate payment over the phone. If customers get such a call, hang up and call Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3729) to ensure that their account is up-to-date. If you believe you are a victim of this scam, you should notify the proper authorities, such as the local police or the state attorney general’s office. If you believe your Entergy account has been affected, call 1-800-ENTERGY (1 800 368 3749) to speak with an Entergy customer service representative.
