Very Beach Chic

By Cindy Clay Srader
Once again I am in love with a bump out window. Sounds odd I know but I wish I would have thought of this in my kitchen when we were building it. How wonderful to be able to expand you seating for a meal or to simply curl up with a book. The great thing about these nooks/window benches is the storage you can have under the cushions. In this picture you can see how they mixed different blues with the lavender flowers in the white pitcher. On the white painted table there are navy print napkins and navy print china. The best part of this room is that those beautiful essential pieces in the room can be found at second hand stores and re-sale shops. The White Table is exactly like one that was given to me. It was a light oak and to blend better with my beach décor I painted the table white but stained the top a dark color. That table was a favorite of mine and I am so glad my daughter is using it now. The corbels that are defining the window area can be found anywhere. I have gotten them at Hobby Lobby. The old shabby Crystal chandelier just makes a simple nook elegant. I like to use old things and make them new again. Different found chairs painted in white around this table would look great! I give this room an A for bringing the eclectic feel to any house you have. For your beach house when you are looking for furniture, try thinking outside the box and not only have some great style but save money. Nothing says you need to have everything new! Remember Old is New again!

HOW TO: Make your Mark on your home

Make sure your home is monogrammed. I love the way this letter is made. Instead of using Popsicle sticks as a base, which is what we would do as a child, use tongue depressors as your backing! All of the colors you would ever need of seaglass can be purchased online. Your first step would be to use the tongue depressors to for the letter. You can cut them and glue them so they can be made to form any letter. Lay the letter you have formed on wax paper on your work surface. Start laying out the different shells and seaglass. Once you have decided where you want everything, use heavy duty craft glue like E6000 glue your design to the wood sticks you may need to add more small shells on the sides. I like bling so after you finish you may want to glue some fake pearls or some rhinestones! If you like the effect you can always make more letters and spell out words and place them on a book shelf or a mantle. With kids out for the summer they could each make their own initial and display it in their room.
