Warm Food

The only good thing about this weather is the wonderful warm food you can make. Right now in the slow cooker is sauerkraut, pork ribs and potatoes, RR’s favorite. Mom was German and Dad was Cajun/Scotch-Irish, what a mixture, but the food was good! Very seldom did Mom make rice but when she did, boy was Dad happy. Coming from German stock and German cooking, you would think I would have been a good cook, not so much. That was what RR thought, boy was he in for a surprise. I could not boil water without burning the pan. As years passed, with the help of a Red & White cookbook, Better Homes & Garden, RR did not starve to death. CB_2017-0117Another thing that helped was we spent almost every other weekend up at the ranch helping Mom & Dad. My cooking got better and RR would stock up on Mom’s cooking so he could make it for the next several weeks.

I needed to work on a pot of soup, the problem is, how do you make a pot of soup for two. A day’s worth of left-overs is fine but not so much you could eat for a week. Our freezer is full as it is with left-over Christmas ham and New Year’s stuff. Hey! Maybe I should take the ham and other stuff and make soup! I’ll work on that this week. I guess since the weather has changed I’ll get RR to cook on the grill, in the fog of course.

I have spent this past five days at the ranch with my sister. Her son has been in the hospital in Round Rock, a two hour drive from home. We enjoyed our time together even though it was mostly on the road driving, sisters can still wiggle and giggle while driving. Aren’t you glad you were not on the road with us?

Have a great week and stay safe.
