Mitchell Improvement Stuns Ranch Regulars…

Michael Mitchell, Mr. Everything at the Wallis Smith Community Golf Course, a.k.a. “The Ranch”, hasn’t had the best summer on the links. As the temperature soared on the Peninsula this summer, so did Mitchell’s scores. “Working seventy and eighty hours a week hasn’t left much time for practice,” said a weary Mitchell after leading his team to a two shot victory in Sunday’s scramble. “My iron play hasn’t been up to snuff and it has taken longer than expected to get the feel of the classic Bullseye putter that I returned to my bag in June.” Once a dominant player at the Ranch, Mitchell’s improvement has been most evident in the Tuesday and Thursday Par 3 contests. On Thursday, Mitchell picked up a rare skin with a par on the 9th hole on his way to a third place finishing 31, behind winner John Milby’s 29 and your golf writer’s 30. “ I haven’t beaten Milby or VanZandt in a Par 3 contest in months,” quipped Mitchell, “but it’s just a matter of time.” “Teaching the ladies has reinforced my belief in my golf swing, and once I started giving lessons again, it began to come around.” Welcome back Michael.
