Who says beach glass needs to be kept in a jar?

By Cindy Clay Srader
When I saw these counters I feel in love. These countertops are manufactured in the same way that quartz countertops are, but in this instance sea glass is used. There are so many different colors that the options are infinite! The countertops are poured with the glass in it and then polished smooth. I am all for anything that makes our beach homes unique. I am constantly amazed at the different products that are available. When I built a home about 12 years ago, there was Corian and Granite, I loved the Granite but it was so expensive that I only did my island in it. Today, Granite is the norm. I was very glad to find an alternate for Granite that does not need to be sealed and also will take direct heat like Granite will! Think out of the box and look at all your alternatives when deciding what you want in your kitchen! Countertops like these make you think of the beach and of all the sea glass you have found walking on the beach. Now you can bring those treasures inside in a different way.

HOW TO: SUMMER FUN FOR THOSE RAINY DAYS

Making sure your children or grandchildren are not bored on those rainy and boring summer days is a cinch if you plan ahead and get your supplies together. Having a rainy day drawer or shelf will make the day go quickly with smiles all around. For this project you will need burlap fabric, some large stamps or large potatoes and some fabric paint in the color you like. If you are adventurous you can use actual starfish or shells. If you are brave enough to use actual seashells make sure that the shells are flat or or roll them on the canvas after putting the paint on the shell. The next step is to cut the burlap into large rectangles for your placemat. Cut extras for those mistakes that may be made! This next part is fun even for the little ones. After you have cut your pieces you will see that there is raveling on the sides. Let the kids pull some of the strings off. Make sure they do not go crazy with the pulling or you will lose your placemat! Once you decide on your design let the kids help with the design and decorate their own placemat!

KEEP SMILING AND REMEMBER TO SPREAD SOME SUNSHINE!
