Weather Sends Golfers Scampering; O’Brien Awash in Cash

High Island Senior Hottie Holly O’Brien ought to be able to squeeze some extra cash out of proud Dad Shannon O’Brien after his back to back wins at the Ranch this weekend. O’Brien, whose team won the Karen and Chris Gatlin Tiki Bar & Grill event by a whopping five shots on Saturday, December 1st, joined Jason Pettit and Lance Ferguson to win the Sunday scramble by one shot. Nice playing Shannon and good luck Holly.

Michael Comeaux and Eddie Wise joined globe-trotting golf ace Gay Richardson to tie for second with John Milby, David Willis, and believe it or not, head golf pro Mike Mitchell. Dabney Harrison, flounderman extraordinaire Dewey Jones, and sweet Charlie Brannon finished in fourth with a ho-hum even par 35. Joe Ball, showing no signs of the back injury that has limited his play, couldn’t overcome the poor putting of Mike VanZandt and Gary Horn, as his team stumbled to three bogies on their way to a one over par 37.

As the weather turned ugly Tuesday evening, so did the golf games of Shannon O’ Brien and head golf pro Mike Mitchell. Both withdrew after 6 holes as the lightning approached, leaving David Buchanan, George Flores, Mike VanZandt and Michael Comeaux to brave the storm. The intrepid foursome played on, watched from the clubhouse by the shaken and trembling O’Brien and Mitchell, with VanZandt and Comeaux eventually sharing the first place cash.
