Successful Shop Hop Saturday

The Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce hosted “Shop Hop Saturday” this past weekend as part of the nationwide Small Business Saturday shopping extravaganza. Similar to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday spending days, Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to visit and purchase locally. Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 by American Express and continues to be a favorite method for neighbors to support neighbors.

On the Peninsula, “Shop Hop Saturday” was created with ten local businesses opening their doors to welcome locals. The shoppers first dropped by the Chamber office to pick up a map. As they visited each shop on the list, their map was initialed, they enjoyed snacks and refreshments, shopped locally, and chatted with new and old fellow peninsula dwellers. The completed maps were returned to the Chamber where the shoppers were automatically entered into the door prize drawings.

Thank you to the participating Shop Hop Small Businesses, and to the local shoppers. The support of neighbors and friends…just one more thing to be thankful for!
