By Captain Bryan Brawner
There are no big changes in East Bay now except that lots of good fish are starting to be caught under the birds in East Bay Best conditions in years! Enjoy! I will put a more updated report in a couple weeks when conditions change.

Captain Bryan’s Fishing Report, 7-12-22
There is not a lot new going on in East Bay except the heat and westerly winds. Surf fishing time! Surf fishing early with gold spoons or spooks is usually a sure bet. You mainly need cleaner water when the wind is down for productive surf fishing. Watch for bait activity. Most of the time, anglers walk right past where the fish are, past the first sandbar. With southwesterly winds, the closer to the jetty the better the water will be.

Right now, some of the deeper gas wells, Fort Travis, and the jetties can be good. Fish deeper with free lined shrimp rigged with a split shot matching current to get it down. You can’t have ripping current and catch anything there. You need the trickling beginning or end of tide movements. The jetties are also producing a lots of large specks. West bay anglers have been working slicks and mud streaks with live shrimp and croaker working best there. If the wind forecast remains as forecasted, the strong southwest winds can wipe out East Bay pretty quickly. That mainly leaves the Intracoastal, west bay, and the jetties that will be fishable.

I will mainly be running catfish and bass trips the next few weeks at Lake Conroe. We have been doing good on hybrids, too! Skip the ferry traffic and come fishing! Text or e-mail me for special prices on catfish charters. We are catching lots every trip!

Catfish are still good now in structure like tires at varied depths between 14-22 ft.

Crappie are scattered on brush tops, under bridges; and remain a slow bite during the day. Hybrids are running in small schools and are hitting MT Pockets slab spoons. Black bass have remained good for me in brush piles and structure in 17-25 ft depth – main lake points. 6th Sense swim jigs and Crank baits like 6th Sense C15 have been producing good fish to 8 lbs.

I have moved my boat to Lake Conroe and am offering guided charters there now for channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and hybrids. Lots of fun and catching!

I will continue with updated report content from myself and several other contributors for East Bay and for other areas of the bay system.
