Groundbreaking for new Fire/EMS Facility

Chamber of Commerce President, Anne Willis, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony.

On December 1, county and local officials were present for a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Galveston County Crystal Beach Fire / EMS Facility

This Fire and EMS station is intended to provide citizens of Bolivar Peninsula a safe secure base of operations for fire and medical services after an event such as Hurricane Ike. It will minimize the gap between the event and resumption of effective operation of these services.

The site, directly behind the County Building on Noble Carl Drive has been elevated so that storm waters will have less effect on the facilities and they can be utilized more quickly for recovery efforts.

Future development will include a more permanent facility for the county Road and Bridge equipment, and a fuel depot to provide that essential element of recovery.

Anticipated cost: $4.5 million
Completion Date: July 2012
