PSP Baseball Opening Day

Peninsula Sports Park kicked off the 2023 Baseball season with a big day on Saturday. It started with a parade of the baseball teams, sponsors, and PSP supporters escorted through Bolivar by Malcolm Comeaux of the PBVFD and Constable Ray Hernandez encouraging the community to follow them the the ballpark. Once they arrived at the field, they were greeted by the smell of fresh pit BBQ provided by K&B Dirtworks. The kids enjoyed a bounce house and carnival midway type games with prizes. Some members of the High Island Cardinal Baseball team took the field as our PSP kiddos ran the bases receiving high fives, fist bumps, and encouraging words from the Cards. Thank you to AJ Lowe, Jack Blume, Drake Albanese, and Lindsey Mills for making this special for the young players.

Afterwards, some of our major league players joined the Cardinals to play an exhibition game against PSP coaches, parents, and our beloved umpire Savannah Frazier. The kiddos took the WIN in this exciting and entertaining game.

Our opening ceremony began with the introduction of all teams and Sponsors and the National Anthem was performed by local Ball High student Anthony Marshall. Anthony also oversaw the PA System providing music and announcing the games all day long. The highly anticipated baseball games began at 1pm with the T-Ball Mud Bugs sponsored by Crawfish Hideaway in Anahuac taking the win over the Gator’s sponsored by The Kite Shop. In the Slugger division, the Bad News Bears sponsored by K&B Dirtworks fell short to Crystal Beach AC & Heating’s team Man O’ Wars. Wrapping up the day was the Major League division Pirates sponsored by Jose’s Cantina edging out the Astros sponsored by Ray’s Fireworks.

Congratulations to our raffle winners Matt Corbin and Justin Kuhnert. A big Thank You to Mrs. Sara Mlcak for supervising the concession stand all day long, and we cannot thank the volunteer coaches enough for their endless hours of dedication and patience.

Peninsula Sports Park is committed to providing activities for the children of the Peninsula and we have a lot more to come. Be sure to register for the upcoming Watermelon Crawl which is PSP’s annual Springtime fundraiser, raising funds to help cover the operating costs of our athletic programs as well as provide scholarships for the graduating Seniors who have participated in our program.
