Chasing the Dream!

By Linda Elissalde
Greg Truex and Nick Droege believe in chasing their dream whether it be chasing Whitetail deer, following birds out on the bay, doing something to make a better tomorrow, or creating the finest Spirits in Texas. Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation (BPCF) decided to see if Greg and Nick’s dream had come true. Twelve members took a trip over “the pond” to visit THE TEXAS TAIL DISTILLERY in Galveston, Texas.

BPCF President Marsha Fredenburg and Nick Droege greeted everyone as they entered a delightfully themed establishment. Their menu presented innumerable cleverly named concoctions with whiskey, vodka or real moonshine. (I had the Loaded Bloody Mary – a delicious drink and meal in itself.) Other patrons shared sips and delighted comments about their choices with fellow guests. We took our glass of liquid in hand as Nick hosted a tour of their sparkling distillery. He was an excellent teacher who explained details of distilling and welcomed questions from a rapt audience. Both men shared aspects of brewing. We enjoyed small tastes of various flavored whiskey, vodka and/or moonshine at the tour’s conclusion.

BPCF participants stayed to enjoy more beverages and eat lunch. An eclectic menu boasted myriad tasty offerings. Choices included savory chicken salad sliders, grilled cheese pork sandwiches, smoked chicken chimmichurri nachos, AND Loaded Deviled Eggs. There were many other items on the list. By the way, you may dine inside or outside.

Attendees agreed that this outing was a complete success. Greg and Nick state that they will never be the biggest Texas distillery on the block, but “are committed to making the very best handcrafted Texas spirits we know how”. BPCF gladly agrees THE TEXAS TAIL DISTILLERY delivers fantastic products and congratulate Greg Truex and Nick Droege for being successful in CHASING THE DREAM!
