Ahoy Matey!

By Cindy Clay Srader
This is the first home I have featured in my Beach House Parade. Those of us that live here are so fortunate to have so many varied homes, that riding down the beach is enjoyable to just see what is happening next. I love this home, but I may be a little prejudiced. It is my Mothers and next door neighbors home. Mom has never been much of a beach goer until we built our home. I think a few lazy afternoons on the porch may have changed her mind. My Dad died the week after IKE and I stayed with her for several months while I had two homes rebuilt. After we moved back into our beach house, I was always kidding her that if she needed me when she got older she better be close because I was not driving to Beaumont at the drop of a hat! When the lot next door to me came on the market at half of the before Ike price, I called and told her it would be a good investment if nothing else. I really think after awhile she thought it would be a shame not to build a house right next door to me (little did she know!). Between the two of us we now have many bedrooms for family gatherings. Since my family is from Louisiana she was looking for a low county style home. She got it, it just happened to be much higher than she anticipated. Those darn rules! A really clever thing she did was have the large attic floored, wired, and plumbed so in the further the upstairs will have room for at least two more bedrooms and a bath. My dad was in the Navy and she wanted this home to honor him. You can see in the picture of the porch, she decorated in blues and yellows to match the shutters. Also note the faint blue she has on the porch’s ceiling. Of course that ceiling is keeping with our Cajun roots. Those devils aren’t getting in her house! LOL!

Her living room is red white and blue, with nautical pillows and a sailing ship that I was not able to show in this picture. The rug under the coffee table is a nautical map design. The yellow sets a nice background for all of the colors she used and makes for a bright happy place. There are many more homes I will show in my parade as soon as I can climb stairs again! I love our place in the sun and the diversity is what makes Bolivar so special! By the way, anyone with an elevator I am ready to visit! I appreciate all of you that have contacted me and I can’t wait to see your home.

Live for the warmth of the sun on your face, the and in between your toes and the taste of saltwater on your lips.
