Baby Sea Turtles Rescued

turtle_0We can all play a part in protecting our marine life. Finding sea turtles on the beach is not as uncommon as you may think. According to the experts at NOAA in Galveston, about 200 sea turtles per year are sighted and rescued along the upper Texas coast. Many are baby turtles that wash up, especially this time of year. They are very difficult to spot, unless you’re familiar with their tracks. Be on the lookout when you are walking the beach, they can be out there.

There were two recent baby turtle rescues on Bolivar, one earlier this month and another this past weekend. If found, alive or dead, call the 24-hour number 1-866-887-8535. They will give instructions for care until they can arrive for the rescue. Do not attempt to put the turtle back in the water as they will only be washed in again. And if you snag one while fishing, do not attempt to remove the hook. Just call the number for guidance.
