Bogie and Double Bogey Win in Anahuac

Double Bogie and Bogie were the big winners Friday for the Ranch Regulars who traveled to Chambers County. VanZandt edged the field by four strokes, highlighted by a 135 foot chip in for birdie on Number 7. Shannon O’Brien birdied the hardest hole on the course and Mike Comeaux sandwiched a birdie between double bogies on holes one and three.

Friday marked the return of “Blue Thunder” to head golf pro Mike Mitchells’ bag. Erroneously reported to have been thrown into the cut, the homely golf club served Mitchell well Friday. Mitchell attributed his success with the driver to a changed grip, but bemoaned his lack of putting skill on the fast greens at Chambers County. Comeaux and O’Brien had problems chipping around the greens which explained their uncharacteristically high number of double bogies. Newbie David Buchanan finished last in the scoring but won two skins to tie VanZandt for second in the skins game. Comeaux won the skins game with 3 winners while O’Brien picked up one and Mitchell was shut out.
