Clean Up at the Pass

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Rollover Pass, Gilchrist, TX.
On Saturday, August 18, GCA about a dozen staff and volunteers converged on the Pass for general clean up as well as passing information to anglers and visitors about the pass and its new rules and regulations. SOME of the visiting anglers cared enough to help in cleaning their fishing areas, with some going beyond by cleaning other areas.

BUT NOTHING was being done by other visiting anglers to help keep their fishing areas clean! SO, these uncaring anglers caused the GCA Board of Directors to make a drastic statement.

Rollover Pass needs more help in keeping the pass clean

“IF these visiting anglers don’t care enough to help us keep this FREE and OPEN fishing area clean and uncluttered for other families to enjoy, THEN WE, the GCA, will take the unusual action of temporarily closing access to the pass until they (and they know who they are) take action to help us keep this place clean for all to enjoy!”

“It’s a shame that we might have to do this, stated the GCA Board of Directors member, but we must do something!“

To ALL anglers- Help keep the pass clean or LOSE IT!!

“This is not a funded state, county, or federal park, he informed, but a private facility that opens its gates for people to come and enjoy what we have FOR FREE! We’ve also had problems with some anglers actually bringing their home garbage to the pass and DUMPING it in our trash containers! This will NOT be tolerated and if we catch those who’re doing this they will be fined and banned from fishing the park!”

C’mon Folks, those of you who do your part, WE THANK YOU, but for those of you who throw your trash about for someone else to pick up, SHAME ON YOU!!”
