Dabbler Skinless in Two-Shot Win

By Mike VanZandt
Sometimes the golf gods smile as you strike the elliptical spheroid with the flat stick and send it meandering over the mixed grass greens at the Ranch and then laugh with you when it falls inexorably into the bottom of the cup. I’m not saying that’s what happened Thursday from the Turquoise Par 3 tees, but the old Dabtician gleefully enjoyed a two shot win with a two over par 29 and five 15 foot or better one putts. In a delightful (to everyone but the Dabster) example of giving with one hand while taking with the other, Dabney did not win a skin with his putting heroics and the skins pot carries over until Tuesday.

Don’t forget the Port Bolivar Cemetery Benefit Saturday, March 22. Mike Comeaux, who had the only double bogey on his five-some’s scorecard Tuesday, would love to sign you up at (409) 682-5807.

Amazingly, several people with very little to think about have asked about the status of Ranch Manager Mike Mitchell’s golf game. All in all, Mitchell remains a solid “B” player, doomed to mediocrity by his refusal to rid himself of the antiquated Ping “Pal” putter in his bag. He is striking the ball solidly and has at least temporarily controlled the vicious hook that destroys confidence and scorecards. He should follow the example of the Dabtician, who regained his form after ditching the homeliest putter I have ever seen, and send the treacherous Ping to a watery grave. (2014-03-15)
