Drifting away!

Here is a room that is all things Nautical! I believe that anything can be art and this beautiful piece of driftwood above the couch is a piece of nature that has it’s rightful place. This room is subtle but has many elements that as soon as you see it you can’t help but smell the sea. Each part of this room is separate but comes together. The old chest could be a sea captains, the rope on the table could have hoisted an anchor and the blue Buoys add to the color in the room. The sea blue pillows and the pale grey walls are subtle and highlight the white couch and chairs. The tropical plants and the green lamp brings even more of the outdoors in! What a great way to start and show off your collection than at the beach! A homey feel with the sea as the back drop!

HOW TO” … Christmas at the beach

Believe it or not but Christmas is right around the corner. Many of us are having our first Christmas in our new beach homes. Finding Christmas décor that matches with your beach house decor is not easy and when you do find something that will bring Christmas to your home, you should purchase it. They are few and far between, but Galveston has some wonderful shops on the Strand with ornaments that reflect the sea. I will be showing different ideas in the next couple of weeks so you will have time to make them. This first picture is such a simple way to decorate by using seashells and a starfish for your tree’s topper. Purchase the cone shape in foam from a craft store and use a glue gun to place the shells. You can see from the picture you can be as precise in placing the shells or as random as you want! As usual, make one or three so they complement each other, I know I sound like a broken record but two would not make the same visual impact unless they are at either end of a fireplace mantle and then they must match each other!

Thank you for your comments. I have enjoyed your emails and appreciate you reading this article. Don’t forget to send me your decorating dilemmas. I will include your questions and answers in the column. Remember I am here to help.
