Feast or Famine

The daily question … What to fix for dinner??
Normally, when we go into daylight savings time, I find we eat dinner later, we go to bed later, everything takes place later than usual. But lately, we’ve been eating dinner around 6 pm. I think it’s all because of Wheel of Fortune! Go figure … It’s always nice to be able to sit down in front of the TV in time to watch Pat and Vanna spin the wheel.

I’m thrilled when we have leftovers from the night before. That means, no fixing dinner, just warm whatever up and enjoy for a second time. Bad habit we’ve gotten into is our dessert thing. It started out with a lemon pound cake with glazed icing, then the next week was the white cake with cream cheese & pecan frosting, then this week, we just finished the brownies with pecans and chocolate frosting. Don’t forget the Blue Bell vanilla ice cream! Oh, we’re sooooooooo bad!

Bedtime too! Geez, it seems one or both of us are nodding off way too early. Is it the shows we’re watching? Lately, it’s been Westerns. We got hung up on Deadwood. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t recommend Deadwood for the weak of heart or “tender of ear,” if you know what I mean? I did enjoy Deadwood even though I was disgusted from time to time every other episode. There was some compassion with dear ol’ Al and the rest of the actors were exceptional especially “The Gimp” and Calamity Jane was priceless!

Anyway, I hope we can snap out of it by the next time change.

Maybe it’s because we’re so tired. I mean, this heat can really take it out of you! Some states have it worse than us, like Florida and California’s heat index has been through the roof.

We did take on some home improvements lately that are keeping us busy. Not to mention getting a new roof, which we really had nothing to do with other than gathering up nails out of the yard, my garden, and especially the driveways. How do those roofers do it? I’d come home at lunch to see the progress and there they were, all 6 of them, taking a rest at lunchtime laying under the oak tree in the front yard. Made me happy we have some sort of shade in our yard. I don’t know what’s wrong with the fig tree, other than the birds eating our figs, the poor old thing looks like it’s losing leaves already.

Other home improvements that DO require our attention are the cleanups after the tile folks or flooring guys have worked all day. Vacuuming is required after each day’s work, and when one room is absolutely finished, baseboards painted and/or caulking completed, the furniture and stuff can be moved back into place. I can’t wait until the closets are done and I can move my clothes back in so I can find things to wear to work again.

Kids will be going back to school soon, that means Fall is “in the air.” Just kidding.

Keep one thing in mind, it’s always cool come Halloween.
It’s all good.
