Rollover Pass, TX. Sunday, July 22, 2012
While wade fishing the western side of Rollover Pass at around 6:30am this morning, Bruno Brumett, of Huntsville TX, waded a little too far into a strong incoming tide and was immediately swept off his feet. Being pulled into the mouth of Rollover Pass he yelled for help! His fishing pal, Steve Peterson, also of Huntsville, swam out to him with his floating Do-net fish basket and both men latched on to it for support.  “I was panicky, stated Bruno, and didn’t really know what to do, but my Bud, Steve, told me to go with the flow and not fight the strong current. “We were just about to be sucked under the Hwy-87 bridge, said Bruno, when Steve and I finally got our footing along the east wall and avoided being swept under it. We then were able to walk out around the east side of the Pass…. WHEW!!! But it was a mighty close call,” stated a wide-eyed Bruno!

“I knew that if we didn’t panic and fight the current that we’d be all right”, stated Steve Peterson, adding that they did the right thing at the right time and were able to come out of the situation safely. “My hero,” praised Bruno, “I owe him my life!”

Both anglers then proceeded to wade out for some more surf action, “Heck, the trout were biting”, Steve advised. But this time Bruno stayed a little closer to his fishing buddy.
