Fishing Report from Captain Jeff Brandon, 12-5-23

By Captain Jeff Brandon
Surface water temperature 59 degrees, water clarity is good. Points and mud flats with scattered shell have produced good catches of trout and reds on our artificial lure trips in the 2 to 4 foot depth range. When we find nervous bait the fish are close by, so when we don’t see bait activity we move on rather quickly. A few birds were still working in the bay, but did not see them often. Shrimp imitation lures with Fish Smack popping corks, with 14” – 18” leaders have still been producing good bites for our anglers, resulting in great success on our chartered trips, as well as Deadly Dudley Terror Tails in Blue Moon Chartreuse on 1/8 and 1/16 oz jig heads, depending upon wind conditions and water depth, as the fish are preferring the slower fall of the lighter heads. On our live bait trips, live shrimp have produced consistently, and provided plenty of Fish Fighting action for our clients, fished under a popping cork and 20- 24” leaders producing the most consistent bites. The bite should continue to be great as the water cools and the days are getting shorter.
