By Ed Snyder/OutdoorsSummary: This past week has been absolutely incredible for trout anglers fishing the surf or the gulf side of the cut- Redfish and Flounder also filled in the void for rod and reelers- A BIG warning for those anglers who’re taking advantage of the rat red run at the pass- THE EYE OF THE LAW IS WATCHING YOU!
Speckled Trout– Excellent trout action on the cut- the gulf side when the tides outgoing and the bay side when the tide is incoming is the rule of fishing here with finger mullet, live shrimp, and shad best bait- Chartreuse twister tails or Lil’Fishys are top dogs in the cut with mirror lures and top waters getting trout in the surf. (Size limits- 15inches to 25inches for 10 specks with one 25incher per day when added as part of the daily limit).
Redfish– Good on both sides during tide changes with bay waders stringing up good ones on baits or hardware. Best bait is finger mullet . (20inches to 28inches for 3 reds, with one over 28inches when tagged in addition to the 3 fish daily slot-limit).
Flounder– A few nice flounder showing up on the bayside or the gulf side. Best bait are finger mullet or mud minnows. (Limit- 14inches minimum for 5 flounder per day).
Black Drum- Very good drum for anglers fishing live or dead baits. REMEMBER- ALL drum under 14inches and over 30inches MUST be released. NO TAGGING. ( Limits- 5 per day at 15- 30 inches).
GAFF-TOP– Gafftop still good for night anglers- – (Limits-14inch minimum no creel limit).
Sand/Gulf Trout – Good for surf and cut using cut baits or dead shrimp. (No limits-).
Whiting/Croaker– Good whiting in surf and cut for anglers fishing cut baits or shrimp,croaker bite is fair to good on same baits.(No Limits).
Crabbing – CRABS ARE GOOD- Come and gett em!!! Blue Crab limits- must be 5inches across carapace -(point -to-point) no creel limits- BUT ALL SPONGE CRABS (egged females) MUST BE RELEASED.
Stone Crabs– Right claw only is kept if two are present- Stones with but one claw must be released, Right claw must be 2 ½ inches from the knuckle before being kept.
Shark -Lots of 3ft plus spinner sharks, Bulls, and Tips coming in for surfers fishing large mullet, squid, or stingray. (limit- 1 at 24inches).
