Fishing Report & Tide Chart For Rollover Pass TX May 14, – May 21, 2012

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Summary- This past week was great for trout and flounder anglers with many limits of specks coming in from the surf as well as the cut and bay.  Flounder were good for anglers and giggers alike with the bulkhead providing flatfish to 22inches and the bay flats giving up limits for the giggers.  Also the Blue Claws are in so grab your string and chicken necks to have some fun and great eating with the crabs.

Speckled Trout– Very good with lots of limits for day surf anglers and night lighters- daytime action is also good for cut anglers using live baits and plastics- Outgoing tides are best but trout are hitting on all tides (Size and Limits- 15inches to 25inches for 10 specks with one 25incher per day when added as part of the daily limit).

Redfish– Good for cut and surf anglers for reds to 34inches- Rat reds starting to show up so be careful on the size limits going into those coolers (20inches to 28inches for 3 reds- with one over 28inches when tagged in addition to the 3 fish daily slot-limit).

Flounder– Good for anglers fishing bulkheads or bay with live bait or plastics- Bay flats also providing night giggers with good limits as well (limit- 14inches minimum for 5 flounder per day).

Black Drum- Lots of puppy drum action but a few keeper eaters coming in – REMEMBER- ALL drum under 14inches and over 30inches MUST be released- NO TAGGING ( Limits- 5 per day at 15- 30 inches).

GAFF-TOP -Sporadic but good when schools of gaff move thru the cut (limits- 14inch minimum no creel limit).

Sand/Gulf Trout – Good sandy action for cut anglers (no limits).

Whiting/Croaker– Croaker and whiting good within cut but nice bull whiting hitting in the surf.  (Limits-No Limits)

Crabbing   Blue claws are showing up in good numbers in the cut- so bring your string and chicken necks for some great fun as well as great eating (limits- must be 5inches across carapace point -to-point, no creel limits, BUT ALL SPONGE CRABS which are egged females MUST BE RELEASED).

Shark -Shark action is heating up with many 3 to 4footers hitting in the surf(limit- 1 at 24inches).
