Five-Year Anniversary Celebration and Meet and Greet

By Brenda Cannon Henley
WOW! The time is getting closer for the Bolivar Peninsula Five-Year Celebration Meet and Greet, and I, for one, can hardly wait to see many of my old friends and meet some new ones in person. I know so many by their name or email name, and I want to be able to put faces to those names. Not to worry, there are no politics involved, no real steadfast agenda, just fun, food, and fellowship. And our door prize bounty is growing by the hour. We have lots of good prizes to share just for registering. Plus, Katrina Faggard and our friends at Print Junkies are giving away a special souvenir to every adult in attendance (or until their supply runs out). They are also bringing some other beachy themed items that you can purchase if you like.

For those that might not know, a group of Peninsula residents held the first Meet and Greet a few weeks after Ike in Gregory Park to attempt to make sense out of what we were hearing and to gain information about FEMA, the county government, insurance, and what to do to get back home after our Peninsula was devastated. From that meeting grew great friendships and the planning for the big Thanksgiving Event in November. Many have remained close and wanted to get together to celebrate our five-year recovery and rebuilding effort. Adversity brought folks together and made friends out of strangers.

There are two ways to eat, and we are trying to make it easy on everyone, and be a help to one of the Peninsula’s greatest organizations. You can either cook or buy food to bring and share (think old fashioned church home coming with dinner on the grounds ((although we will have tables)) and tasting some super good food that our folks can make). Or, if you are coming from some distance or simply do not want to cook, you can buy BBQ from Malcolm Comeaux and his team of hot shot cooks at the Port Bolivar Fire Department who have graciously agreed to set up tables and sell BBQ beef sandwiches, sausage, chips, cold drinks, and the like. All money made goes to the fire department to aid in their work.

And, we have great door prizes. Cindy Srader will have a crew on hand to greet you and your guests and help get you registered for the door prizes. Kay Chapman Rhodes, Jamie Greer, and others will help you get to the area. Deborah Reed and her crew will help you arrange your food and oversee the serving tables. Kathie Poulter will handle the door prizes. The kids have a nice place to play in the area next to where the adults will gather.

Come one, come all, on Sunday afternoon, September 15th, beginning at 2:00 PM at Fort Travis. Much work has been done at the old and historical Fort. Come and visit it and meet your neighbors.

If you or your firm wants to give a door prize (great advertising for those who buy your products and services), let us know today or tomorrow, please. Simply bring the prize to the event or call (409) 781-8788 for pick up. It will be helpful if you will tape a card to the gift with the correct name, address, and telephone number of the giver. Thanks! Please help to tell your friends and neighbors this week.
