Approximately $500 million in local, county and state resources are expected to be invested over the next 10 years on projects to improve the transportation infrastructure in the Galveston County region. In order to provide this important information and enhance engagement in these projects, we are proud to announce that in partnership with the area Chambers of Commerce and the Bay Area Houston Transportation Partnership (BAYTRAN), the county will be hosting the first Galveston County Transportation Summit, which will take place on September 1, 2016 at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

According to Dr. C. B. “Bix” Rathburn, Galveston County’s Director of Economic Development, the summit is designed to engage local, state and federal government as well as agency leaders, to encourage collaboration and future partnerships and to learn more about the transportation needs and opportunities across the region.

“In order for our county to maximize the benefit of this public investment in terms of economic and community development it is critical that we are all engaged and knowledgeable about the planning processes of current and future projects,” Rathburn said.

The summit will serve as joint acknowledgement by the local communities and regional economic development groups that transportation is paramount to our collective economic future. Officials from Houston – Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), as well as Congressman Randy Weber, Senator Larry Taylor and Representatives Wayne Faircloth and Greg Bonnen will also be in attendance.

County Judge Mark Henry said he’s looking forward to bringing together so many key players in the economic and transportation industries. “Investing in transportation and infrastructure is integral in creating jobs and expanding economic development,” Henry said.

    Hi, there

We bought a new house located at 1059 Shady Lane, Gilchrist Bolivar… The Caplen street (connect Shady lane and hwy 87) has many holes along that street, can the county improve this road for the neighbor driving and safety purpose? Thanks,

    Anh
