Getting Ready for School

By Georgia Osten
Better late than never. Our Littles came for a visit. They’ve been on vacation, or their parents have …
The parents won a trip to Sicily, what a dynamic thing to win, right? So, the little guys went to camp the first part of the summer in Oklahoma City with the other Grands. When the parents came back from Italy, they all picked up and went to their Regular vacation spot in Breckenridge. They enjoyed some cool weather for the first couple of weeks in Colorado, then it began to get warmer and warmer.

We picked up The Littles on Thursday. I think they were happy to be back at the beach around all their familiar hangouts. Pierce, the older brother – 9 years old, thought it would be a lot of fun to have a lemonade stand. Riggs & Fisher, the 6-year-olds, didn’t really understand how much work it might be, but were excited to get a few dollars to spend on “whatever they wanted to buy.” Pierce stressed to his siblings that half of whatever they got, they would donate to Crenshaw for school supplies.

They opened for business on Friday afternoon just as weekenders and beach goers began traveling up and down our street. I always claim to have the busiest street in Crystal Beach because the subdivision next to us is No Beach Access. So, everyone passes through the church parking lot to get to our street. Not to mention traffic from The Big Store to the beach!

Mommy and Daddy and their two fur babies arrived a little later Friday after “meet the teachers” and other important activities going on back home. Everyone was excited to be at the beach finally.

We set up the lemonade stand again on Saturday for an hour or so, then we all headed down to the beach for the Rig Run. Fisher rode with me on the golf cart, hoping we wouldn’t get stuck in the soft sand. We finally arrived around Barrell 65 or 70 where all the boats were waiting and preparing for Jim to blow the horn announcing the beginning of the first race. As Fisher and I walked to the center of the crowd, we became educated on particulars of the race. Like what kind of sail boats were racing, what makes the boats turn, where do the sailors sit, where do they go once they get out there in the water.

We stayed until the short race boats began coming in, then everyone decided it was time to get back home to continue selling lemonade. What a generous crowd! You can read all about it in the article above.

That evening, after another dip in the pool, we all headed over to Down Under for dinner. The “Lemonaders” were exhausted but managed to stay up after we got home to watch the Astros win again! And, of course, have some ice cream. By the way, they ate all the red Jello the night before. Red Jello happens to be expected when they visit Grandma & PawPaw.

Pictured below are the proud parents.

These are FOND MEMORIES The Littles won’t soon forget.
