Good Friends/Good Neighbors

By Georgia Osten
We are blessed in this lovely neighborhood with wonderful friends and neighbors. It’s not a very big neighborhood, only 3 streets, and not a lot of renters. But our neighbors who live here are the best! When I got home from work on Friday, I got a text from a neighbor on the next street over. Would we like to come over, sit around the fire pit and have dinner? Well, that was a no-brainer! They’re avid fishermen/fisherwomen and they had decided to share their abundance. Nine of us gathered in their front yard around a blazing firepit, moving this way and that to avoid Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.

These were some folks we’ve known since before Ike and several others we’ve met as they move into the neighborhood. Our hosts prepared each fish dinner complete with rice, carrots and peas, and the whitest flakiest fish you could ever imagine. Each meal was wrapped in foil and placed on the pit for the exact time of readiness.

We were each given a plate and silverware wrapped in a red & white checkered cloth napkin. Heavenly! Did I mention the wine? Pouring freely! Afterward, the dessert tray was passed around with all the home-baked goodies you could imagine. And the conversations were non-stop.

What a wonderful spontaneous get together.
How to follow this one, I have no idea? But I can’t wait till the next time!
