Happy New Year

GO’s Sand Bucket By Georgia Osten
A lovely New Year tradition, meeting up with friends on the beach. Thanks to Elaine & Dennis who came back to the beach to enjoy friends, as tradition will have it! We waited til dark to drive on down. They told us where they’d be set up and by golly, you couldn’t miss it. The gang was gathered. Janie, coordinated all the goodies folks brought. We slaved all day – kidding … The trip to Kroger earlier in the day gave us the idea to bring some of their cookies, that was our contribution. Marsha brought the delicious homemade cookies, I couldn’t get enough of. Somebody brought these little pigs in a blanket, cream cheese spreads with crackers, Robert made black-eyed peas, and Tom brought a fancy bottle of Tequilla.

The campfire was roaring and the Smart People had already grabbed a prime position to set up their chairs by the fire. We mostly stood around catching up with friends we don’t get to see enough.

The fireworks were sensational, not a lot, but very entertaining. The wind kept up and everyone, but Mary Ann, got a bit chilly. There again, she was one of those Smart Ones who brought a blanket to wrap up in.

I was ready to go, and it wasn’t even 9 o’clock, but I was freezing. When we got home, I had to up the heat to thaw out. We turned on whatever series we were watching, maybe “Mayor of Kingstown,” while the fireworks boomed and swizzled outside our front windows. Now, this was an amazing firework show down here in our neighborhood!

To bed close to 11, I thought of waking my husband when I work up around 1 o’clock, but No! I’d see him in the morning, I’m sure …

I hope you had your lucky black-eyed peas and cabbage. I started the turkey around noon, thinking it would be ready around 5-ish. Nope, it had to go another 45 minutes to an hour, everything else was ready, just had to wait. What a way to start out the New Year, right?

Here’s wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

My wish is that the days, months and years slow down. It seems the older I get, the faster it goes.
