Houston Audubon Open House

Houston Audubon will have an Open House at their High Island sanctuaries Saturday, April 6. Admission to the sanctuaries will be free. The Smith Oaks Sanctuary on Old Mexico Rd is world famous for the Rookery where herons, egrets and spoonbills nest. There is no place in Texas to get a better look at the birds and their nests. You can also get a great look at the alligators waiting for the baby birds to fall out of their nests.

St Mathew’s Methodist Church in High Island will be serving a barbecue lunch Saturday starting at 11 am.

Does anyone have an update on the “re-opening” of Steve’s Landing? We were traveling down the Intracostal and were pleasantly surprised to see it resurrected….we drove over to confirm it was indeed Steve’s Landing and saw the “Liquor Application”. Looking forward to the Grand Re-opening!! So pleased Ike did not take this treasure down permanently!
