Pictures Don’t Lie

This week has been fairly busy, a meeting with friends on Tuesday to discuss Crab Festival 5K. Wednesday was the Sheriff’s get together with Ray Nolen and Jimmy Fullen, I already knew who I’d vote for. Then, Hubby had to go into town to stay with The Littles, I made my Bombastic Pizza and watched the beginning of Virgin River. It’s a bit “HallMark-ee,” but I enjoyed the first few episodes. Nothing I’d expect my husband to watch, so when he returned, we went back to Suits. If you have never watched Suits, you should. It’s very entertaining.

I don’t usually do this, but I decided to look back at the archives in Crystal Beach Local News, and I found something I wrote back in 2016, just after Labor Day. It made me chuckle. Here’s a bit:

Yesterday – it finally quit raining (for a little while). Thank goodness! We were feeling a little cabin fever. We decided to grab the dog, wade under the house and pull out the kayaks. It wasn’t easy getting Maezy into the kayak, but we kept telling her we were going to the beach. It was easy crossing the yard, floating down the street and sailing through the slough. When we reached the beach, there was the perfect washout to guide the kayak on out to the surf.

Farfetched right? I find this drought amazing. I’ve never seen the sloughs so dry! And the vegetation growing in them is waist high. I can only imagine someone is going to have to mow the sloughs.

I forgot to mention, week before last we had some company, a cousin and a Best Friend from the Dallas area. Two fun guys! One thing I always enjoy about Joe coming to visit is that he loves to cook. Know what I mean? Cousin Mike didn’t bring Idgie this time, she was doing her yearly visit with some college chums. It’s too hot this time of year for Idgie anyway, she’s a cold-weather-lover. I’m “Sipsey” to Idgie, we’re Fried Green Tomato friends (it’s a long story) …

I managed okay with all the guys in the house for three nights. By the time I’d get home from work each day, they were all three sitting on the couches having a cocktail. Talking and talking, my goodness, it was difficult to get a word in. We’d all go out to dinner, or Joe would cook up some fish. Not the fish he caught, but fish from Mike & Joe’s trip over to Katie’s in Galveston. The last night was a venture over to Fisherman’s Wharf in Galveston, then dessert, Crème Brulee, at Willie’s.

I guess I’ve rambled enough for one week. Time to go refill the hummingbird feeders. These little guys are so hungry. I’ll bet they’re getting ready to travel, they sure are stocking up on the calories!
