Planning for Christmas, my very favorite time of year

By Georgia Osten,
This year, the family is coming to the beach and I couldn’t be happier. We were out of state on Thanksgiving, so I began my decorating a little late. That, and the fact that I’m so slow doing things these days, I’m still not through. Yesterday, I surprised myself by starting and finishing the tree all in one day. I’m almost finished with the garland up in the loft too. The lights on the deck took a little while because my hands would freeze and I’d have to come in to thaw out (and get a sip of wine). What surprised me was that I didn’t have to start over a hundred times, I managed to get all the connectors pointing in the right direction and actually made it to the appropriate plugs. The wreath was a bit of a disappointment, I threw away the old one at the end of the season last year and now have a brand new one. It’s battery powered, but there isn’t a timer like the old one, so you have to go out there to hit the button. That’s okay, you have to go outside to plug in all the lights any way. I just ordered my Christmas cards this morning, so if your card is late, just consider it a Happy New Years greeting. Now, time to begin thinking about Christmas cookies, can’t forget the Jam Teasers, everyone’s favorites. It’s still all about tradition, we keep doing what we’ve done over the past 30-50 years (or longer). And don’t forget, everything is a little better, a little more fun, a little less stressful with a glass of wine. Cheers!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
