Puzzling

By Georgia Osten
It hits me around this time every year. It’s puzzle season at my house. Actually, my kids started it. For our trip to Indiana for Thanksgiving, my daughter brought several puzzles. Their family are avid puzzle “putter togethers.” Several 1000 piece puzzles were accomplished in that 3-4 day trip. When we got home from Tampa, where we spent Christmas, we didn’t have a whole lot in the way of decorations to put away, we just didn’t put that much stuff out. I put lights out on the deck, but y’all didn’t have any electricity (or water) while we were gone, so that was a wasted effort.

After checking all our pipes and replacing some, we’re back to normal. The propane tank was filled and thank goodness, the generator started right up. Doesn’t look like we lost anything in the freezers, I guess it was too cold in the house without any sort of power at all. I’m glad we weren’t here.

My current puzzle

We had a bunch over for dinner on New Year’s Day. We had the usual good luck vittles, ham, black-eyed peas, cabbage and cornbread. While putting stuff away after we had eaten, I ran across the green bean casserole I had forgotten. So, I packaged take-home green bean casserole for each family. I wasn’t sure how this southern cuisine would go over, but everything was devoured. I guess these folks have been in the south so long it’s thinned their blood and made them realize how good our southern cooking can be. Apple pie and ice cream for dessert.

While we were in Tampa, our other kids introduced us to this great game. We’re a “game family,” if you haven’t noticed. Codenames – I ordered it through Amazon and it was delivered before we got back home. We took advantage of our captive audience on Sunday and taught them how to play.

Great family and fun company!

Here’s hoping you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s Day. Wishing you all a very prosperous 2023 full of peace and love. Be kind to one another.
