Rollover Pass Fishing Report Sept 24 – Oct 1, 2012

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Summary: Bull Reds, Bull Reds, Bull Reds were the big bites for last week as golden croaker runs kept anglers busy catching and redfish busy feeding. Speck action was slow with most anglers connecting early and late in cut or surf. Whiting, croaker, and gulf trout were active with a few keeper flounder caught from 14 to 22 inches.

Speckled Trout– Slow for the most part but anglers found them biting early and late in the cut and surf. (Size/Limits: 15-to 25 inches for 10 specks with only one over 25 inches per day as part of the daily limit).

Redfish– Downright incredible with anglers reeling in slots and Bulls from 20 to 48 inches.  Many Bulls were tagged and kept but just as many were released. (Size/Limits: 20 inches to 28 inches for 3 reds, with one over 28 inches when tagged as part of the 3 fish daily slot-limit).

Flounder– Slow with mostly throwback male flatfish being caught with a few keeper female flounder hitting baits along both bay and gulf bulkheads.  This weeks cool front should get the flounder moving off the flats and thru the cut. Watch for early morning porpoise activity on the gulf side when they start playing “flounder ball”  (Size/Limits: 14 inches minimum for 5 flounder per day).

Stingaree Marina and Bait Camp Report- Specks, Gulf Trout, Flounder and Reds are hitting along the marsh grass with mid East Bay structure holding good fish during incoming tides.  Plastics worked slowly are enticing bites as are live baits worked under popping corks. Drift fishing outgoing tides w/live baits or soft plastics doing well over reefs, well pads, and sandbars.
