Sweets for the Sweet(s)

Georgia's Sand BucketBy Georgia Osten
I’ve been working here for over 4 years now. Perhaps, my most favorite job to date. Why did I have to wait so long to find it? Well, it took being retired and moving to Paradise late in life. I’ve always loved the beach, but I’m not a Beach Comber, and I’ve collected everything imaginable since living here permanently, going on 12 years now. I just gave all my beach glass away, I think I took most of it to Second Going. I still have some of the conch shells, the ones with holes in them so I could string them and hang them around the outside of the house. We’ve collected odd things we’ve found on the beach, like fishing lures, bobbers, Barbie Dolls and Bic Lighters. Every time my youngest daughter comes for an extended stay, we go through the house to de-clutter. Every time we empty a space in the house, I manage to fill it up with something else.

I recently went to the BBQ Cook Off at the Port Bolivar Fire Station, the Auction that is! Oh what a treat, so many items to bid on, it was quite a temptation, but I resisted. Talking with a friend across the table from me, “what would you want that for?” “Where would you put it?” Good questions, I have absolutely no room for anything else. Well, I guess I could be talked into a few more things …

Back to my current occupation, let me tell you something. Everyday is a challenge, and something new to learn. I think I’ve always been cut out to interact with people. They’re a lot of young people, and I admire each and every one of them. Their devotion to their profession is amazing. I’m sure you know many of My Peeps. Do me a favor, when you see them at a restaurant or up at The Big Store, give them a pat on the back and thank them for their service.

So, if this looks a little bit out of control, it’s the least I can do. They know where the sweets are and I love they have an excuse to stop in to say Hi and grab a candy bar. Heck, the UPS guy and the Fed Ex guy also get a treat every time they stop by.

You might say I have a sweet spot for all of them!

Thank you for this delightful article. You are a real Crystal Beach Treasure. Oh yes! The UPS guy brings a doggie treat to Emma when he delivers to our home. She lets us know when he arrives..

    Love,
    LCE
