Texas Supreme Court Grants Review of Case Filed by Galveston County Judge Mark Henry

court_0The Texas Supreme Court announced today that the court has granted the petition filed by Galveston County Judge Mark Henry in the ongoing battle with 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox, and will hear the case. Oral arguments are set to begin March 9, 2017. This case is very significant and will have ramifications in every county in Texas regarding separation of powers as to whether a County Judge and Commissioner’s Court can properly execute their duties, such as budgets, positions and salaries, just to name a few. “The fact that our petition will be heard by the highest court in Texas is very significant,” said Henry. “I am very eager to have our side make the case that what we did was not only lawful, but necessary to look out for Galveston taxpayers, and to do the job we were elected to do.”

This news comes on the heels of the Texas Supreme Court denying Judge Cox’s Emergency Motion to Prevent Interference on December 20, 2016, which was a big victory for Judge Henry and the Commissioner’s Court.
