Lou Graves MacBeth is a native Galvestonian; Program Chairman of the Laffite Society; member of Daughters of the Republic; member of Galveston Historical Foundation; and presenter at the Second Annual Laffite Seminar at Texas A&M University, Pelican Island 2014.

MacBeth’s family arrived on the Island in 1840 and most made their living in the maritime industry. Her great-grandfather was engineer on the Neptune in the Battle of Galveston in Civil War.

The Laffite Society spells their name with 2 “f”s because they have historical documentation that shows how Jean Laffite signed his name. However, the spelling of Lafitte with 2 “t”s is also widely used.
