Wastewater Treatment Facility Update

wwt0Representatives of Galveston County, the Texas General Land Office, and environmental services company URS held a public “scoping” meeting last Thursday, June 26, to review the status of the Wastewater Treatment Facility to be built in Crystal Beach and solicit comment from residents. The first step is an environmental review required for federally funded projects. URS is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), a lengthy process that will analyze impacts to natural resources, and study the project alternatives. The draft EIS is scheduled for completion in December. Additional public meetings will be held in early 2015 prior to publication of the final EIS in September 2015.

How was this San Francisco company chosen to evaluate the project? Was there a bidding process? RFP (request for proposal)? Pulling straws out of a hat?

Again the GLO goes OUTSIDE of Texas to get “experts” for their studies. What a slap in the face to the talented, competent people of Texas. Aren’t there any Aggies or Teasippers qualified to do this evaluation? You’d a thought Jerry Patterson would at least give his college buddies an opportunity to do this.

Who will verify the accuracy of the information? Would you trust someone the GLO chose to provide correct, unbiased data? You know, like the Florida engineering firm that fudged the numbers for the Rollover Pass studies? The GLO got themselves a federal lawsuit for their efforts (trial in November, as far as I know).
