Houston Grand Opera to perform on Bolivar

On Wednesday, December 19 at 1:00 and 2:00 PM, the Texas Commission on the Arts and Target will offer free Houston Grand Opera performances of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel to students at Crenshaw Elementary School in Crystal Beach, TX. The 1:00 performance will be with elementary students and the 2:00 performance for the Middle School group. The performances are open to the public.

Jane Long Art Contest Winners

To help celebrate the Jane Long Festival, elementary and middle school students from several area schools were invited to participate in the Jane Long Art Contest. This year, 120 entries were received. The winners were announced at the festival and ribbons were presented by local artist Patty Hagstrom. Congratulations to all participants.

2012 Crab Fest Poster Contest Winners

Each year, the Chamber of Commerce sponsors a poster contest for first, second, and third grade students from Crenshaw and High Island Schools. The theme is the Texas Crab Festival and the young artists enthusiastically worked on their entries. After multiple requests, Crenshaw students will perform one more dinner theater this year. They will perform “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” on Friday, May 18th. Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the play will begin at 7:00 pm.

Mckail Ochoa and Kailey Tucker are definitely making their way to Australia.  So far they have received over $4000.00 from our local businesses. A big thank you to Stingaree and anyone who donated on Saturday to the girls.  Stingaree had a special St. Patrick’s Day offering Green Beer and food!  The girls made artistic photos for those who donated at Stingaree and Down Under.

Next Saturday, visit the girls at The Big Store!  They may have a special treat for you when you make a donation.

Update! High Island girls want to say THANK YOU Bolivar!

Thank you for everyone who has supported us so far!!  Here is an update for our High Island High School Juniors’, Kailey Tucker and Mckail Ochoa.  They have the chance of a lifetime to represent Texas as distinguished athletes. These girls have been invited to participate in the National North Central Conference Track and Field Team that will be competing at the 2012 Down Under International Games in Australia.

Bolivar Peninsula Girls Win fantastic Australia opportunity

Congratulations Kailey Tucker & Mckail Ochoa! These Juniors girls at High Island High School in High Island, Texas, were invited by Down Under Sports to represent Texas on the National North Central Conference Track and Field Team competing at the 2012 Down Under International Games in Australia. The students were selected based upon their athletic ability.

In 3 months, by June 1, each student is required to raise $4500 for a total of $9000. Together, with your help, we can do it and make this dream come true for

Crenshaw’s Dinner Theater is Back!

The play is scheduled for Friday, February 3rd at 7:00 PM. Menu is: Brisket, chicken, sausage, beans, potato salad, salad, rolls, desserts! Cost is $10 per adult or child 9 and up. Ages 8 to 4 are $5 and under that age are free. Come join us for a night of drama where a lesson about character is emphasized. This is a serious play, but our next dinner theater will be all laughs. 🙂 Come support our students-trust me, they are working hard. Tickets will be pre-sold and will be sold at the door. Our students will be your waiters and waitresses for the evening. Come enjoy the night with us.
