Celebrate

By Georgia Osten
It’s that time of year around this family! We started off the New Year with our oldest handsome Grandson’s Birthday, January 8th. Grant turned 22. Twenty-two years ago, I was allowed in the delivery room to witness Grant’s birth. It was scary and I knew I was in the way, but I tried to remain calm while the doctor and assistants worked on this child to get him to start breathing. Whew – He’s been noisy ever since!

Along with Valentine’s Day, we have a Birthday to celebrate the day before. Our precious Dax-Man, born on February 13th in North Carolina. It snowed on his Birthday. I remember, we were home with the oldest two siblings while Mommy & Daddy went to the hospital. I also remember going to the WalMart there in Fayetteville, it was like here at home when we were going to have a hurricane. Everybody and their uncle were buying water and canned goods. I forget why I was there, probably just to get out of the house to go shopping.

Along with birthdays, there’s anniversaries, Matthew & Camber will celebrate their 13th anniversary on Feb. 5th. This doesn’t really involve us unless, of course, they ask us to stay with the three boys and two fur babies. The Wedding! What a grand ordeal, driving to Oklahoma City bumper to bumper for 14 hours. We were carrying the bride & groom and the blessed wedding gown. Snow again, what a beautiful wedding! The reception, may I be selfish? My son picked Georgia On My Mind to dance the Mother-Son dance at their wedding. Sorry, these things are special to a Mom.

Last, but not least for the February events, is our son-in-law, Paul. Words cannot describe the essence of this guy! Did I say “essence?” He’s a force to be reckoned with. I met him for the first time when he came to Sugar Land for Thanksgiving dinner with our family. My #1 pet at that time was Suzy, she was a “man-hater!” I know how it happened, but it couldn’t be undone. Miracle upon miracle, Paul and Suzy made friends, he was accepted by the family. I think he felt comfortable, he moved slowly around Suzy.

So, that’s just a few months into 2024. We’re looking forward to event after event. Every year is a blessing!
