Dust to Dust

By Georgia Osten
Yep, That’s the way my house is these days, and I think it’s going to get a lot worse. I’ve always wanted more white in my little mountain chalet. I even had this bright idea that the pine ceiling should be painted white. This always made my husband cringe when I’d bring it up. Let’s face it, I grew tired of all the browns in our house. The floors are brown ceramic tile. The two main bathroom showers and bath enclosures are brown tiled. Well, not for long!

We decided to do whitish vinyl planking all over the floors to match the bedroom/office/bathroom and closet extension we had done years ago. Our good friend, Anton, built the extension for us. As it goes, Anton moved up north somewhere, not far enough away for him to be out of earshot! So, we reached out to Anton – “who can we contract to do our tiling?” The fellow he recommended was more than eager to come visit with us, and we hired Walter!

We handled the shopping and everything was delivered quickly because Walter was READY!

First of all, Walter’s crew power-washed the ceiling over the deck, and primed and painted. It looks beautiful. Next, they went into demolition mode on the two bathrooms and that’s when the dust began to fly. They wrapped and covered a lot of the inside, but inevitably, the dust manages to leak out. Anyway, the old bathroom tile was chipped away last week and on Monday, the re-tiling has began. White subway tile, it’s going to be fantastic.

In the midst of it all, we also decided to have the roof redone. All the roofing materials got delivered on Monday, not sure when they’ll get started on it??

Good news for the tiling folks, they’re working in air-conditioned comfort.

Speaking of, y’all stay cool and hydrated. I looked at the upcoming weather and there’s not a drop of rain in site! I’m trying to keep my garden and flower pots watered, but my grass is crispy crunchy.

I guess we’ll get some rain when we get a hurricane threat, sorry, I shouldn’t have brought that up. Ah nature, you never know what’s around the corner.
