Friends

Georgia's Sand BucketBy Georgia Osten
We’ve recently lost a dear friend. She was a major part of the Texas Crab Festival, but most of all, a major part of our lives. She made the best lasagna ever! Bunco at her house was always a treat. She would serve dinner at the big island in her kitchen. Always a salad to complement the meal. Everything was separated, a bowl for the green peppers, one for the onions, one for the tomatoes, one for the cucumbers … And the dessert was out of this world! There were little bowls of chocolate covered raisins, chocolate covered peanuts, snacks of all varieties set out at the 4 bunco tables. What a treat when you switched partners and she was yours, she was a winner.

Her house, her life, so colorful. She collected pigs, go figure. Not real pigs (I don’t think), at least I never saw any real pigs. When I would have Bunco at my house, she would arrive early just to help with anything I might need help with. If there was nothing more to do, she would sit with me to wait for the others to show up, me with a glass of wine and her with a big Yeti cup of tea or something, never anything alcoholic.

She was our  Go-To Girl for the Tee Shirt Contest for the Crab Festival. She was the organizer of the t-shirt sales. She painlessly dealt with all the ordering, all the back and forth ventures to Cocomo Joes in Beaumont. When we ran short, back she would go to order more. She chose all the colors each year, made sure we had plenty of each size to suit all the different characters of the Crab Fest. She made sure we had plenty to sell at the Festival and the locations where we would sell Golf Cart raffle tickets prior to Mother’s Day Weekend.

You, my dear friend, would be the last person I would see each night of the Festival. We would hug & say goodnight to each other and say “One down, two to go,” or “One more day!”

I’m missing our talented, lovely, bouncy red-headed friend. Rest In Peace Dear Girl. It’s not the same without you and the Texas Crab Festival will not be the same.

I’ll miss our “Goodnights.”
