It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

By Georgia Osten
Every December, 2nd Saturday, you can look forward to a rare and beautiful sight. It’s the Crystaland Parade put on by the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Last night was a “Chamber of Commerce night” for sure! The skies were clear, the fog took a bit of a break and the trailer/floats, golf carts and various vehicles turned out for the parade. The Crystal Beach fire truck led the way out of the parking lot at the police station, took a right on Crystal Beach Road and a left at the beach.

Beachers were lined up along the beach with their bonfires going, goodies to eat and plenty of libations to please. Following the fire truck was Santa’s sled carrying that Jolly Old Elf himself, followed by others equally as elaborately decorated. There was a snow-blowing jeep, dancing reindeer, Sandy Shores created another masterpiece – a float full of Santas, The Frozen Trailer was gorgeous, as was Elsa, it looked like a winter paradise with bubbles, the golf cart with all the balloons had a gymnastics group who did cartwheels and flips all along the parade route on the beach.

Our very own EMS Water Rescue vehicle took 3rd place in the Vehicle category, that was a proud group of medics!

The Krewe made the best hotdogs I’ve ever tasted, better than Minute Maid Park if you ask me! Santa greeted all the kiddos, along with a few silly adults.

The Gulf Range won Business Lighting, Dennis & Elaine Rollfing won Home Lighting and Holiday Beach won Subdivision Entrance Lighting.

Don’t be bashful, get out there and string some lights, you have time.
Let’s light up this Peninsula!
